Jeremiah 21-36: A Translation

Give thanks to Yahweh of hosts

for Yahweh is good

for his steadfast love is eternal

and those bringing a thank offering to the house of Yahweh, for I will surely re-
store the fortunes of the land as at first-said Yahweh.
b) The Return of Pastureland (33:12-13)
33 12 Thus said Yahweh of hosts:
Again there shall be in this place of waste, without human or beast, and in all
its cities, pasture for shepherds resting the flock.^13 In the cities of the hill coun-
try, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negeb, and in the
land of Benjamin, and in the regions around Jerusalem, and in the cities of

Judah, again the flock shall pass under the hands of the one who counts it-

said Yahweh.

4. A Righteous King in a Righteous City (33:14-16)
   33 14 Look, days are coming-oracle of Yahweh-when I will confirm the good
   word that I spoke to the house of Israel and concerning the house of Judah:

(^15) In those days and at that time
I will make sprout for David a Shoot of righteousness
and he will do justice and righteousness in the land
(^16) In those days Judah will be saved
and Jerusalem will dwell in security
And this is what one will call her:
'Yahweh is our righteousness.'

5. Davidic and Levitical Lines to Continue (33:17-18)
   33 17 For thus said Yahweh:
   There shall not be cut off for David a man who sits upon the throne of the
   house of Israel.^18 And for the Levitical priests, there shall not be cut off a man
   from before me who brings up the burnt offering and who burns the cereal of-
   fering and who makes sacrifice-all the days.


6. Two Covenant Promises (33:19-26)
   a) Covenants with David and Levi Remain Intact (33:19-22)

33 19 And the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah:

If you could break my covenant of the day and my covenant of the night, so
daytime and night would not come at their appointed time,^21 then could
