POWER LIVING’S
TOP TIPS FOR
STUDIO OWNERS
- Know your strengths, then hire vibrant,
authentic team players to manage the rest.
Wearing too many hats will wear you out! - Choose one or two styles of yoga that you
love and stick with them. Do what you do
well, rather than trying to teach every style
and confuse your community. - Seek out other studio owners as mentors
- learn from their successes and failures.
- Do your due diligence when selecting the
neigbourhood for your studio. - Create a warm, inviting environment where
students can spend time on and off the
mat – your vibe attracts your tribe! - If something isn’t working – change it.
Learn your lessons and be prepared to
move forward. - It’s the 21st century – marketing plus
social media is a must!

criticism with an open mind, listening
to feedback attentively, but not being
dismayed by the critics.
As the studio expanded and evolved,
Peak inspired those around him to truly
transform – encouraging his staff and
teacher training alumni to expand into
leadership roles and studio ownership.
Challenge accepted
Becoming a pioneer in modern Power
Yoga has, of course, come with
challenges. Keeping the studio thriving
has required continuous innovation.
Power Living continues to expand and
grow their offerings. On the studio
front, this has looked like adding more
times and varieties of classes to the
schedule, offering foundational
workshops and creating the 30 Days
Modern Yoga’ project. And, in addition,
opening more spaces and growing the
PL family.
Outside of the studio, Power Living
began running retreats and offering
teacher trainings in 2007 and, since then,
continues to add more of these to their
annual smorgasbord, as well as keeping up
with changes in the industry. Peak says,
“We had to become a modern, process
driven business...We had to evolve at the
same rate the industry evolved... We had to
support students by having classes that had
familiarity but also allow teachers a
creative expression so we found the right
mid point and trained people in that. Now
both students and teachers grow in a
community that thrives.” To keep up with
changes in the industry and technology, in
2015 Power Living pioneered Australasia’s
first virtual yoga platform, Yogaholics – an
online space boasting a plethora of active
classes available worldwide.
All of this business growth and
expansion has been guided by the
philosophies of yoga. For Peak, in business
and in life it’s so important to keep coming
back to your core values. “Yoga values,
business mind”, he says. “We make sure we
always remember the purpose of the
business first is to help raise the
consciousness of humanity, everything
comes second to that.”
Power Philosophy
Power Living’s guiding philosophy is
one of traditional philosophies and
practices transformed in a modern
environment in an accessible and
digestible way. In doing this, Peak
believes it’s important to challenge
students both physically and spiritually,
whilst remaining compassionate
and understanding.
Power Living prides itself on
providing challenging and
transformational classes that build a
healthy body, clear mind and a powerful
warrior heart. The teachings and
techniques are inspired by modern
science, bio-mechanics and applied
physiological movements. They aspire
to provide a space for students to move
more deeply into their own practice,
embracing the philosophies of yoga both
on and off the mat. And all the while
practicing what they preach, being
“authentic to our own path and
inspiring others to do the same”, muses
Peak.
