Oftentimes, cutting out gluten, stabilizing blood sugar, getting proper
nutrition, stopping birth control pills, and rebalancing the adrenals can
rebalance estrogen and progesterone.

In other cases, more advanced strategies may need to be employed, such
as additional lifestyle interventions, targeted supplements, or bio-identi-
cal hormones.

Many of the adrenal tests may be helpful in uncovering abnormalities in
female hormones as well.

For a comprehensive book on lifestyle modifications, supplements, and
medications that can help rebalance female sex hormones, I highly rec-
ommend The Hormone Cure by Dr. Sara Gottfried.

Periodontitis

Periodontitis is an inflammation of the gums that can lead to receding
gums, loose teeth, and eventually tooth loss. Periodontitis is often found
in Hashimoto’s patients and can be worsened by fluoride, the very sub-
stance added to our waters and toothpastes to prevent tooth decay.

The mechanism is as follows:

  1. Plaque builds up on the teeth from bacteria in the mouth.

  2. Bacteria triggers an autoimmune response from the body, resulting

in gum inflammation.

Symptoms

• Bleeding gums

• Puffy gums

• Receding gums

• Plaque buildup on teeth

• Loose teeth

• Bad breath
