DO YOU HAVE AN ENLARGED THYROID?^5
Check Your Neck!
You can examine your own thyroid with a handheld mirror and
glass of water. The thyroid gland is located at the base of the
neck, below your Adam’s apple.
- Hold the mirror in your hand and look at the area of the
neck below your Adam’s apple and immediately above
your collarbone. (Don’t confuse the Adam’s apple with
the thyroid; the thyroid is further down.) - While still looking in the mirror, tip your head back and
take a drink of water. - As you swallow, observe your neck. Notice any bulges
or protrusions. - If you see any bulges or protrusions, you may have an
enlarged thyroid gland or thyroid nodule.
