5: Finding Your Root Cause

I wrote this book to guide others with Hashimoto’s toward finding and

treating the root cause of their own condition based on the research I

did to overcome my own condition. I am a firm believer in patient em-

powerment and self-management, and what I love the most about being

a health care professional is the opportunity to teach others how to take

care of themselves and their loved ones.

While you may need to utilize the services of various health care profes-

sionals throughout your healing journey, the push to get better and keep

asking questions has to come from you. After all, you know yourself bet-

ter than anyone else.

Although some health care professionals are knowledgeable about treat-

ing Hashimoto’s, you will likely know more about your condition than

most of them after reading this book! I hope this information will em-

power you to be at the center of your own care team.

Some medical professionals say it is impossible to return to normal thy-

roid function after Hashimoto’s, but that is not true. They just don’t

know how to get there. People are recovering from Hashimoto’s every

day. Some of them are recovering by accident, and some on purpose.

This book gives you the tools to find and treat the root cause of

Hashimoto’s so you, too, can get better—on purpose!

What’s Really Going on in Hashimoto’s?

Hashimoto’s is a complicated condition with many layers that must be
unraveled. Conventional medicine looks at each body system as a sepa-
rate category and is only concerned with the thyroid’s ability to produce
thyroid hormone, but Hashimoto’s is far more than just hypothyroidism.
