PRINTS CHARMING
Roller blinds are no longer
a boring block neutral.
Luxaflex’s Print Collection,
developed in partnership
with Signature Prints, has
six styles, including this
finely detailed ‘Micropia’
design in Rugged.

There’s no doubt blinds take up less space
than curtains. “We often suggest blinds when
the brief calls for practicality, simplicity and
space efficiency,” says Morgan Ferry of Simple
Studio (simplestudio.com.au). And, of course,
blinds offer a cleaner, more modern look.

pre-made
Blinds can be slightly trickier to buy off the
shelf. Window sizes and frames are becoming
more custom – and while curtains have
greater flexibility in how they’re hung, blinds
require a more precise measurement.
That’s not to say pre-made products can’t
succeed. Just follow the old builder’s rule of
“measure twice, cut once”.

roller blinds
These are the window dressing for when you
don’t want any window dressing! Roller blinds
might be less decorative than curtains, but
they get top marks for practicality. Often
mounted on the inside of the frame, they’re
easily concealed and are a great way to get
a blackout effect. Or, for a more decorative
result, pair a roller blind with a curtain or
sheer fabric, as it will serve both purposes.

roman blinds
Soft without being fussy, Roman blinds are
a good alternative to decorative window
dressings, such as curtains, but still offer the
practicalities of shade and privacy. These
can be fabricated in a number of materials
and can take a bit of pattern. “Small prints and
ticking stripes are ideal,” says Cam Warwick.

vertical blinds
Form and function join forces with vertical
blinds. They offer both the aesthetics of
curtains and the functionality of light filtering
and privacy. “Vertical blinds are perfect for
covering sliding doors and large windows,
as a practical and stylish solution,” says
Jenny Brown of Luxaflex Window Fashions
(luxaflex.com.au).
