For the bezel, I had
some Dupli-Color
METALCAST blue
in my paint cabinet and
decided to use it up.
The METALCAST paints
simulate anodized
metals in a two-part
process. The fi rst part
is a ground coat of
metallic silver paint,
over which the color
coat is applied. The
color coat should be
done lightly; too much paint and the ground coat is completely covered, ruining
the effect. It’s a pretty tricky paint to get used to, but with practice you can create
an anodized look that can really fool people.

Step Eight: Painting the Bezel

For the photo op, I simply threw
in a few lights and a front bay fan
controller with blue LEDs. I can
now consider this project a really
cheap case with an expensive-
looking paint job. In the end, I
think I succeeded in making this
case look a little bit better than
it looked when it fi rst arrived on
my workbench. OK, maybe a lot
better. n

If you have the will and patience, you
can get the same mirror shine on all the
plastic parts of your case as well. Follow
all the same steps as previously described,
with the exception of using the sanding block.
This level of detail should be done by hand,
an anodized look that can really fool people. with small pieces of sandpaper.
