There is sound psychological backing for this claim. Scientists have shown
that comprehension and retention levels are much higher when people are
interested in what they are reading than when people aren’t. Your brain just
doesn’t bother remembering stuff that it considers totally dull.
RULE 7: READ, READ, READ.
The sad fact remains, the best preparation for the Reading Test is to have read
widely and deeply. We’ll give you all our best tips, but you still need to invest
time in reading a variety of texts of increasing complexity. If your reading matter
is limited to cereal boxes and the school’s bathroom stalls, it’s time to explore
new possibilities—like a newspaper, perhaps. Caution: Do not attempt to switch
