If thE boot fIts...
If you’re heading off track, it’s essential you
wear the right footwear. Alan Walker, Training
Manager at Mammut UK, reveals how to find the
perfect fit for you.

Make sure you have enough room around^
the foot for comfort. It should feel secure, with
no heel lift. But your toes should have some
room for movement and shouldn’t be pressing the
front of the boot.

Try your boots on in the afternoon. A day in
the hills causes your feet to expand slightly,
so trying them on later in the day will give
you a more realistic idea of how they feel w

hen

you need comfort the most.

If you’re stepping on well-trodden paths, then
choose a lightweight boot with a reasonable
amount of flexibility. But if you’re trekking
on uneven, steep ground, you’ll need a more rigid
boot with good ankle support.
