Movement Major Movements
Twisting
Movement on the torso area around the vertebral column, either to the left or right side of
the body.
Forward Bending
A spinal movement done with the flexion of the spine, supported by different abdominal
and back muscles.
Hip Flexion
A movement of the hip joint muscles done by bringing the thigh or top of the pelvis forward
(e.g. thigh moving closer to the abdomen).
Knee Extension
Straightening of the knee joint, i.e. moving the lower leg away from the back of the thigh.
Minor movement
Shoulder Internal Rotation
A rotary movement of the upper arm inward, towards the midline of the body.

The name of the pose is derived from the following terms:
parivrtta – revolved / twisted
baddha – bound
trikona – triangle
asana – pose
In Parivrtta Baddha Trikonasana, there are three major joint movements
happening - making it a pose that when practiced carelessly, can easily lead to
injuries.
