Make it an experience
Travelling on the cableway at Harties, Table Mountain and the
Durban Skycar at Moses Mabhida Stadium, offers a bird’s-eye
view of your surroundings – and what a great experience!
A cable car trip brings the adventure right to your doorstep
and usually ends up at a lovely lunch or picnic venue. Although
it can be a little more pricey, it’s an enjoyable family day out
and one that everyone will remember.
RATES: From R30 per child in Durban to R255 per adult
in Cape Town.

A weekend in the country
Head to Dullstroom and stay in one of the beautifully equipped
stone cottages on the Walkersons estate. Sharing the estate with
the original hotel and manor house are six thoughtfully decorated
and spacious cottages. Equipped with every home comfort,
they’re perfect for families with younger kids, as the hotel doesn’t
accept guests under six. There’s ample room to securely stow
bikes and other leisure equipment, and cottages are serviced
daily. Kids can rent bikes and cycle freely in a secure environment
(real peace of mind for parents) – they may even spot the
odd duiker or zebra. For Dad and the boys, there are several
well-stocked trout dams to practise their fly-fishing, and an
unforgettable experience awaits Mom at the Amani spa. Offerings
include a Swedish massage, Amani body polish, a hot stone
massage as well as manicure and pedicure treatments. The hotel
supplies beautifully prepared picnic baskets that can be enjoyed
at any of the recommended sites on the 800-hectare estate.
MUST-DO: You could be forgiven for thinking you’ve landed in
the English countryside, so a leisurely high tea – complete with
scones and cream – is a must.
RATES: Dependent on cottage size: a six-sleeper cottage
goes for R4 900 per night (weekends) and R2 995 per
night midweek.
