speak lots of animal languages...cat, tortoise, tiger and duck.”
As it happens, Ishwar’s animal impressions were pretty convincing.
Given that he’s only been doing yoga for about four years, he seems to
be a complete natural at everything he turns his hands to. His abilities
on the mat have been featured on the BBC and media outlets around
the world - he was even invited to India, yoga’s birthplace, to showcase
his moves at a festival in Pondicherry earlier this year.
Currently living in in Sevenoaks, Kent, the family originate from
Mysore, one of yoga’s true spiritual homes, which perhaps explains all
this natural yoga talent.
Vishwanath, a consultant radiologist, says his son now truly loves his
yoga practice. “I love yoga, but he’s so much better than me - I can’t do
all the poses he can!”
He says it’s also been good for the pair’s relationship and within the
family home. “Both of us do yoga together and it has improved the
bond between us. It has also improved his school performance.” Now
that’s something that every parent would like to hear.
In fact, his dad says Ishwar’s school is very proud of him for
representing the UK. During the school day, he even passes on some
of his skills to fellow pupils, teaching yoga to friends in the playground.
And on his birthday, his parents brought in a yoga teacher to host a
party for their son and more than 40 other children.
“When we had a birthday party for him he wanted a yoga party and,
of course, he wanted a yoga-themed cake. He teaches all his friends.”
It’s something that his father would like to encourage for a long while
to come.
“I want him to continue to practice yoga and to pass it on to other
children,” he says. “As a child, when I was growing up, I learned yoga
and the more you practice the better you feel.”
