Hip Hop
Hip opening postures offer a multitude of benefits
that go well beyond general flexibility
We know that yoga is filled with hip openers, and for good reason. Did you know that hip-
opening poses offer an effective form of stress management? When we are stressed, we tend
to carry that tension in our hips and pelvis. By performing hip-opening poses, we allow our
bodies to release that tension and to cultivate space for joy. Try this hip-opening sequence to
help let go of what doesn’t serve you.
Three-Legged Dog
(Tri Pada Adho Mukha Svanasana)
Start in downward facing dog. Looking between your hands and keeping
your left foot grounded, kick your right leg back and stack your right hip on
top of your left hip. Bend your right knee. Keep your shoulders square and
press the ground away as you lift your pelvis. Breathe for 5 deep breaths.
