Empty hands vs Knife

Keeping the momentum going,
Dean drives forward with an elbow
to the assailant’s chin...
...then secures Mick’s forearm to his chest
and wraps his arm over the elbow, creating
a shoulder lock. Stepping to the left he
keeps the lock, taking his opponent’s
balance as he peels the knife via the hilt...
As Mick steps in and stabs to
Dean’s heart, Dean angles away and
jams it with a double block...
...then seizes Mick’s wrist with the
checking hand and strikes his left
shoulder (a stop hit).

and techniques were kept secret. When the
Philippines were invaded by the Spanish,
the invaders required guns to subdue their
fierce opponents. Eskrima was subsequently
outlawed, as the Spanish feared an uprising;
however, the art did not disappear, as many
masters went into hiding, teaching in secret. As
the bladed art was outlawed, eskrima masters
began using fire-hardened sticks and thus took
stick skills to a whole new and independent
level, incorporating a large variety of weapon-
disarming techniques that were deemed
too risky for blades. Also, the stick could be
used to come at the antagonist from myriad
different angles, whereas the sword and dagger
could be more restricted by the nature of their
bladed edges.
During the Spanish–American War,
Filipino leader Emilio Aguinaldo led the
rebellion against the Spanish rule in the
Philippines in 1896. When US and Filipino
forces had taken control of most of the islands,
Aguinaldo proclaimed the independence of
the Philippines. On 13 August, with American
commanders unaware that a cease-fire had
been signed between Spain and the US on
the previous day, American forces captured
the city of Manila from the Spanish in the
Battle of Manila. This battle marked the end
of Filipino–American collaboration, as the
