marks for feel and
forgiveness. A thicker top line
makes it look easier to hit.
The iron had a distance story
too that we didn’t expect.

The consensus pointed to the
P770 as top dog for versatility
and feel. Working the ball with
fades and draws was easy for
the accomplished player.

Big price for a big ego. Can
you handle it? Perfect for a
hard hitter needing a tad of
forgiveness. Aspirational
club for mid to low
handicappers and pros alike.

This could be a
big moment for
TM. Finally an
iron that delivers
on all counts and
places them back
on the front line
in the iron market.

An at-a-glance comparison of the three better player irons we put to the test at the Belfry.

MIZUNO
JPX900 TOUR

Perhaps the classiest looking
of the three in terms of clean
cut design with bevelled
edges and a slightly darker
satin finish.

Hard to choose between this
and the P770, although the
longer irons needed to be
swept away and you’d have
to say were less forgiving.

Feels just fabulous
out of the middle,
but you do need to
be quite precise.
It’s not a big head
so harder to shape
shots for the less
consistent striker.

It’s the nearest the JPX range
has ever been to a genuine
blade. Consequently, it works
best in the hands of a proper
ball-striker.

Aimed at the purist and
connoisseur. A blade lover who
wants that bit of extra help.
Helps the higher launcher keep
things under control.
