THE FIVE
STEPS TO
CHIPPING IT

Good chipping is as much about decision making as it is
about the technical execution of the shot. When you’re
on the course, follow this process to help you select the
correct club, feel the shot and then play it to perfection.
Assess
the lie
Your decision-making
process starts here. Look
at how the ball is lying.
The firmness of the
ground and the length of
the grass will determine
what type of shot you can
play and the technique
required. For hardpan
lies, think about using a
straighter-faced club with
less bounce. If the turf has
a little more ‘give’, you
can think about a wider
range of clubs.
