‘Useastring

line to improve

your putting’

You will see a lot of guys using this
drill on the practice green at Tour
events. It’s one of my favourites
because it does so many things with
one simple set-up and you can use it
on any length of putt. With the
string running above the ball to the
centre of the hole, you can: easily
get your eyes, feet and shoulders
square to the line; learn what
straight really looks and feels like at
address; and work on getting the
putter working down that line after
impact. All those things will help you
start the ball on your intended line –
and the more often you do that, the
more of your putts will find the cup.

Keep it straight
If you set up square, swing
the putter head square to the
swing, and hit the ball out the
centre of the face, then your
ball should roll straight in. It
gives you great feedback on
set-up and stroke.

Set up a
string line
Simply tie a long piece of
string to the top of two
long tees or anything you
can stick in the green. Find
a straight putt and set
the line straight and tight
so you can putt the ball
underneath the line.
