The Chapel

ALL OF THE SALONS LOOK VISUALLY STUNNING, BUT IT’S
WHAT GOES ON INSIDE THAT MAKES THE CHAPEL SO UNIQUE

With a name like The Chapel you’d expect a bit of quiet reverence
and that’s just what you can expect. Amanda Dicker co-founded
The Chapel hairdressing salons in Tunbridge Wells (in a converted
old chapel), Sevenoaks, both in Kent, and Islington, London with
her husband Toby. She’s a mum to nine-year-old Bert and a huge
yoga fan, which comes out in all her work. After chatting to her
female customers through the years, and inevitably hearing about
their problems and woes in life, she started thinking about how she
really could help them make their lives better.
She’s passionate about encouraging people, particularly women,
to take just a few minutes out of their busy schedules to do
something that makes their soul happy. Her outlook is that if
you don’t make time for yourself, or look after yourself, then
you’ll be no use to your family around you. And so she’s embedded
that philosophy into her hair salons, where everyone is treated
as a guest.
It resulted in the R.E.S.T. ethos: Relaxation, Education, Service
and Tailored treatments. Almost a salon based on hotel principles:
guest not customer, conversation not consultation, relaxing, never
pompous. A series of products under ‘The Chapel’ name have also
been released to enhance the pause message, with luxury candles,
hand creams and pulse point perfume to encourage more ‘me-time’
moments not just in the salon but at home too.
Forget the hairdressers, this is a salon experience that’s more
like an exclusive spa or boutique hotel.
