Nothing inspires unbridled rage like purchasing music from an online service, and then discovering you can’t play the
fi les on your MP3 player. Luckily, there’s a simple detour around this PITA. We’re going to show you how to rip the
audio stream over the net and capture it to your hard drive, where you can do whatever you want with it.

How to Play Internet Music Anywhere

STEP 1 DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL REPLAY MUSIC

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Replay Music ($30, http://www.replay-music.com)

STEP 2 USE YOUR SOUNDCARD AS A SOURCE

You’ll need to launch Replay Music before you start your
streaming service, and you’ll need to confi gure it the fi rst time
you run it. Click the Settings button in the lower right-hand
corner, and then click the Input tab. Choose Sound Card, and
set the volume to max.

STEP 3 FINISH CONFIGURING REPLAY MUSIC

.ext, click the Splitting tab and make sure there’s a checkmark
next to Split Tracks. Last, click the /utput tab and place a
checkmark next to Automatic Tagging. Choose the option to
record to -P3, and set the bit rate to your preference. 7e
chose 2+bps in this example because the subscription
service we use streams 7-A fi les at 60+bps.

STEP 4 RECORD YOUR MUSIC STREAM
Leave Replay Music
running and start playing
your protected music.
1ueue up the tracks you’d
like to record and then
click Start 2ecording in
Replay Music. 7hen the
Start 2ecording Session
window pops up, enter
\%A\%a in the fi eld labeled
Directory Format. This will
place the recorded tracks
in a folder labeled with
the artist’s name, and in a
subfolder labeled with the
name of the album.
Click /+ and begin
streaming music from your
subscription service. .ote:
Don’t use your PC for
anything else during this
process, including instant-
messaging. The simple act
of resiZing a window can
create an audible glitch in your recording. 7hen your recording
session is fi nished, you can double-click any track to edit the
information describing it. 7asn’t that easy

A lot of programs are capable of capturing audio streams
and encoding them as -P3s, but Applian Technologies’
Replay Music is the slickest of them all. It captures audio
streaming from the Internet or from your hard drive, splits
the stream into individual tracks, and automatically tags
them with title, artist, album, and genre information. /nce
the songs are encoded as -P3s, you can play them on any
PC or media player.
