others. Over the next few months, you
will work in turn with each Chakra and
discover more about yourself and your
own Chakra energies.
Firstly, I am going to ask you to focus
on yourself initially, and show you how to
connect with your own energy and so aim
to develop an increased awareness of your
energy centres and the energy that (ideally)
flows smoothly through your spine and body.
Next, is an exercise to bring your focus to
the manifesting and liberating currents that
govern you, along your spine, and then a
healing energy visualisation to cleanse your
Chakras before you begin working on each
one in turn.
Here we start in a Mountain Posture and
you can keep your eyes open or closed.
Focus on your feet being firm on the ground
and that your whole body is strong and
secure standing here with your feet hip width
apart. Next, take your awareness to the
crown of your head and above the head, and
imagine that you are bringing down cosmic
universal positive energy through the crown
of your head and into your body. Allow the
energy to flow down through your spine, to
the base of the spine, and into the legs and
through the feet to the Earth. Repeat this
three times or until you have established this

the spine and helps to stimulate the Chakras,
keeping them balanced and well. The two
nadis govern the sympathetic (Pingala) and
the Parasympathetic (Ida) nervous systems.
Sushumna nadi is the conduct of ‘Kundalini’
which is sometimes called ‘serpent power’
and is a special cosmic pranic energy that
remains dormant at the base of the spine
until awakened (usually by spiritual practice
and Chakra energy work). The nadis and the
influence of the breath on the Chakras is the
main reason why the alternate nostril breath
is termed the ‘master breath’. Firstly though,
and ideally, in order to create a flow of breath
we need to learn to breathe correctly, before
attempting full Alternate Nostril Breathing.

Chakra energy work
The Chakras hold many lessons that are
personal for every individual and not one
person will have the same experience as
another. Each Chakra has developed from
the day you were born and has developed
and gained influences as you have grown,
based on your own experience of the past
and present situations and influences –
internally and externally. The Chakras go
through cycles of developing and adjusting
every seven years and in any given year, one
Chakra may be more prominent than the

cosmic ‘manifesting energy’ flowing freely
down your spine and into your feet.
After a while, reverse this visualisation,
and bring the energy of the Earth up through
your feet, into your legs and allow it to
travel upwards through your whole spine
to the top of your head and out of the
crown. Repeat this visualisation three times
or until you have established this ‘liberating
current’ of energy.
Lastly, once you have established a
connection with the currents of energy
flowing through you, imagine that there is a
bright white light of energy coming through
the crown of your head and flowing freely
through your spine and that this energy is
cleansing and healing your Chakras as it
flows downwards, and then upwards through
your whole body.
End the visualisation by letting any
imagery simply fade away and then focusing
on your breathing, which is calm and relaxed.
You can practice this exercise for the next
month, before starting work on the Chakras
so that you have a focused practice and to
clear the energy beforehand.
