“I love how snow softens and changes the scenery, providing the instant light values that I’m
always searching for in the landscape,” Blaukpf says. “Everything goes from drab to glittering
in an instant, making the most mundane scenes quite magical, as in Farm Shadows [9x12,
watercolor and pencil on paper].”

“In the mornings, when I’m parked in my car with my sketchbook resting on the steering wheel—
I share the street with dog walkers,” the artist says. “What could I be recording at that hour of the
morning, they must wonder. Little do they know that they’re the inspiration for sketches like Man
and Dog [8x8, watercolor and pencil], which I painted in my Travelogue watercolor journal.”
