Why RAO provide support for young women in India
The beneficiary of the pilot RAO program is the Bodhichitta Foundation
— providing education, job skills and safe environments for women
and girls.

  • 58% of girls in India have dropped out of school by age 15.

  • Girls are widely viewed as a liability and are vulnerable to child marriage
    and trafficking.

  • Indian girls under 5 are 50% more likely to die than boys due to lack of
    care and medical attendance.

A SOUND LIFE’S AFRICAN ADVENTURE
In June, A Sound Life’s (ASL) National Program Manager, Sophie Palmer, and three
big-hearted volunteers spent two weeks nurturing ASL’s Yoga School at Rainbow
Ridge orphanage in Tanzania. The team delivered daily yoga and meditation
sessions to 29 orphaned children aged 3-16 years, providing them with practical
tools and education to promote self-empowerment and well-being. Local
teachers also gratefully received training from ASL, enabling the children to
continue receiving three weekly ongoing yoga sessions. In exchange, local farmers
shared inspiring knowledge about permaculture and sustainability; ASL volunteers
happily immersing themselves in working on the farm, harvesting local produce.
This compassionate pilgrimage and enriched community connection presented
vast life-changing experiences for all.

SALUTATIONS FOR RECENT ARRIVALS
Co-founder of the Refugee Yoga Project and yoga teacher, Danielle Begg, recently
presented the results of the evaluation of the program at a conference in Toronto.
The program, which began as a pilot two years ago, has now expanded to almost
200 classes for recently arrived refugees. The evaluation found statistically and
clinically significant reduction in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Depression
symptoms for groups of refugees healing from trauma. “It’s significant to have
research showing it’s feasible and culturally appropriate to use this treatment,”
says Danielle. We’ll salute to that!

RISE AS ONE: NEW HUMANITARIAN
PROJECT BY YOGA MASTER
Popular Australian yogi and change-maker, Mark Breadner, has recently launched
his global social enterprise Rise As One (RAO). The platform aims to engage
socially conscious yogis and harness their diverse talents to remedy inequalities
in developing communities, particularly for women. Each year, a specific
foundation and their associated projects will be selected to be a participating
beneficiary, and will host up to 10 selected yogis who will live and work in their
community. These community-minded yogis will receive transformative training in
preparation for their new roles. Mark says, “The model is simple yet powerful, to
awaken the global community to the possibilities of service, underpinned by the
principles of yoga. It’s part holiday, part service, part soul adventure and fulfills a
deep desire to contribute to worthy projects.”
