each other five, or even ten, years later. Researchers consistently
find that three-fourths of divorcing spouses experience some
lingering attachment to their former mates after the separation.
In my practice, I have witnessed many cases where ongoing inci-
dents of sexual intercourse between separating spouses contin-
ued to occur right up to the eve of, and beyond, the actual divorce
itself. (In fact, experts estimate that this “surviving sexuality”
occurs between the parties in as many as 30 percent of all divorce
cases.)
