Move Time
With three kids in three different schools that start at three
different times, as well as a cornucopia of other extracurricu-
lar activities, it’s not unusual for me to spend three hours a day
in my car. I guess you could say I’m more of a stay- in- car mom
than a stay- at- home mom. Most of those hours in my car are
spent driving within four miles of my house. My house that I
miss very much.
I spend the rest of my stay- in- car time waiting. There’s lots
of waiting. So as we sit in the high school car line for my oldest,
Anna, my two younger kids and I sometimes play the “Which
team is that?” game. The school’s massive Texas- sized athletic
complex sits across the parking lot from the main education
building. The teams walk past us to after- school practice, and
we try to guess their sport before we can read it on their shirts.
“Soccer!”
“That one is definitely football!”
“Softball!”
“Cross- country!”
