Think of those speed radar signs many local police depart-
ments place on busy streets so drivers can see their speed.
Everyone knows these little signs cannot issue tickets, but when
they are in place, compliance with posted speeds improves up
to 40 percent.^2
The right community and accountability can have a power-
ful effect on how we live our lives and how well our habits stick.


Shift Your Community Perspective


We talked a lot about understanding our season and situation in
chapter 3. But another aspect of understanding our situation is
recognizing the influence of our community. How will our cur-
rent relationships positively or negatively influence our desire to
build a morning routine and grow in our relationship with God?
We are better together. Home- court advantage is a real
thing. When we have others on our side, cheering us on and
holding us to a standard of excellence, we become the best
version of ourselves.
Romans 12:4–5 says, “Just as each of us has one body with
many members, and these members do not all have the same
function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and
each member belongs to all the others.” We were made to need
one another and to thrive within the context of community.
How can we shape our community in a healthy way? How
can we surround ourselves with those who inspire and encour-
age us?
While much of our community is a result of where our jobs
are or where we are born, we can still be intentional— we can
