Your Morning Routine Toolkit
194
ask questions and help one another get to the core reasons why
we didn’t get it done. When we know the reasons, we can work
together to build a solution for their morning that will work.^5
Simply asking why to each answer can quickly get to the
root issue, but try other questions as well:
- What made you decide that?
- Why was that hard to do?
- How can we avoid that in the future?
- How can we make the on- ramp for that goal/habit
easier?
In this way we can truly be “as iron [that] sharpens iron”
(Prov. 27:17).
Small Changes, Big Results
The benefits of surrounding ourselves with others on the same
journey is undeniable— even scientific.
In 2009, the UK tax authorities added one small sentence
to their collection letters. The sentence simply said that most
other people were paying their taxes. That’s it. And that one
simple addition “led to the collection of £560 million of the
£630 million debt targeted for recovery by Her Majesty’s
Revenue & Customs.” That was a 30 percent improvement
over the previous year!^6
It is human tendency to do what those around us do.
That’s why it’s so important to be intentional about your
community— your circle of influence. Love the people God
brings into your life, pursue friendships that push you to Jesus,
and gather friends who raise up one another.
