Do Our Mornings Matter?

checkout lines? Aside from the apparent fabric shortage among
celebrities, I’ve noticed that there are always at least two kinds
of magazines: ones for teen girls and ones for grown women.
The ones for girls typically have titles like these:



  • “Copy This Singer’s Latest Fashion Statement!”

  • “Learn to Style Your Hair Like Your Favorite
    Movie Star!”

  • “Check Out How Cute This Famous Teen Couple Is!”


(And whatever the title, there are always, always exclama-
tion points.)
But the magazines for women tend to have titles like these:



  • “10 Models Who Are Ugly Without Makeup”

  • “The Celebrity Couple Whose Marriage Is Over”

  • “Find Out Which Actress Threw a Fit on Set”


Do you see the difference? From encouraging to destruc-
tive. What happens along our journey of life to transition us
from dreaming to tearing down?
We lose hope. When we lose hope, we settle. When we
settle, the only way to lift ourselves up is to tear others down.
How do we get off the hamster wheel and revive our hope?
Our self- esteem, our hope needs to be centered on something
more secure. Something unchanging. Someone unchanging.
What if we still believed, no matter our age, that we could be
beautiful? What if we still believed we could feel smart or healthy
or full of energy? What if we still believed we could change the
world? What if we still believed that anything is possible?
