Are You Ready?

First, think through regular, daily activities— what drains
you and what causes you joy. What do you get excited about,
and what do you dread?
For example, I’m not a party planner. I derive no joy and
feel the opposite of happy when I’m assigned to organize a
holiday party. It’s a complete drainer. I will come. I will eat. I
will party. Plan the party? Please, no.
But I love being a chaperone and hanging out with the kids
on field trips. Knowing this about myself allows me to feel
okay about never signing up to host a party, but instead always
adding my name to the chaperone list.
How do we find our drainers and fillers? The easiest place
to begin is by looking through your time- tracking list and
making notes about each activity you do at least weekly.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself as you look
through the list of your regular activities:

  • Which activities did I look forward to?

  • Which activities left me with more energy for the rest of
    my day?

  • Which activities drained me?
