Laying the Foundation for Your Morning Routine

only a fleeting memory without an anchor. An anchor keeps it
from floating away with the waves. A well- used anchor can even
save a father and his children from a very dangerous situation.
Just as my gloom- and- doom perspective on that boat kept
me from doing anything remotely helpful, wrong perspectives
about our mornings, our abilities, or our situations will pre-
dispose us to failure.
And then just as our anchor kept us steady in the storm,
if we build a simple anchor in our mornings, like the three-
minute morning routine, we can keep our habits afloat no
matter how the waves crash down.
Finally, just as my dad chose to keep moving rather than stay-
ing where he first dropped the anchor, we, too, can keep moving
and developing our morning routine so we are ever growing in
our relationship with God and His calling in our lives.

It’s Time to Get Started

We’ve covered a lot so far. We’ve talked about why your morn-
ings matter and how you can learn how you’re wired so you
can make a tailored morning routine. We’ve learned about the
heart and idea behind God, Plan, Move and creating a morn-
ing routine for the long term.
Now we’re ready to dive in to building your very own
morning routine. The rest of this book is going to follow the
steps I alluded to in my boat story. For each area of our morn-
ing routine, God time, Plan time, and Move time, we’ll show
you a three- step process to starting and building your morning
routine.
