Time for you

Mottram Hall, Cheshire
Located in stunning countryside, just a short drive south of
Manchester, Mottram Hall (part of The Q Hotels Group) boasts
a huge and wonderful spa area, in addition to its many other
attractions. It’s a place where it’s easy to go off-grid for a day, a
weekend or longer, to recharge body, mind and soul. The venue is
popular too for golf, weddings and business meetings with a state-
of-the-art conference centre and other facilities, and with 120 stylish
bedrooms. That also includes a fine health club where you’ll find a
packed schedule of fitness activities including regular yoga.
The hall itself, nestled amidst idyllic parkland and the expertly
sculpted golf course, is one of the area’s grandest buildings, dating
back to 1721. Yet the owners have expertly blended the old with
the new. The elegant spa area has eight luxury treatment rooms
including two double suites offering a whole menu of soothing and
uplifting therapies (from top homegrown names such as ESPA), as
well as relaxation rooms and chill-out areas. It also comprises the
UK’s first alfresco thermospace spa, putting it at the forefront of the
country’s luxury hotel scene. In fact, there’s plenty of variety here.
Experience the delightful Brechelbath and Stonebath warm rooms,
both designed to relax and raise the body’s temperature as you
overlook idyllic surrounding gardens. An indulgent escape, close
enough to the city, but a world away from all the stress.

Spoil yourself rotten

Moddershall Oaks Country Spa Retreat, Staffordshire
Luxurious indulgence with a personal touch, if Moddershall Oaks was
on The X Factor it would be a resounding ‘yes’ from all four judges.
Located in a rural spot a little south of Stoke-on-Trent, this boutique
country spa retreat is well worth a visit if you want to be treated as
an individual (a VIP one, at that!). The venue is comparatively small
by modern (sometimes industrial) spa standards but in this case it’s
most definitely a positive. The romantic, intimate candlelit restaurant
is the perfect way to finish a day here after being pampered on the
massage table or lazing around the indoor pool area. And, when it’s
icy cold outside, there’s no better treat than laying in your dressing
gown gazing at the real fire that’s carefully maintained by the highly
attentive staff (who’ll also bring you a nice herbal tea if you want
one). The beauty spa is also equipped with a hydrotherapy pool,
soothing reflexology foot baths, serene showers, steam room and
heated loungers. The outdoor spa area includes a heated vitality
pool and Kelo sauna. And drinks aren’t restricted to green teas and
smoothies either: if it’s a more indulgent break you’re after, then
don’t worry, you can enjoy a cheeky cocktail in the outdoor spa
as well. Understandably, Moddershall Oaks is a popular place for
weddings and other events too, but these do not impact on the
general ambience or quietude. The rooms are plush and modern,
and there’s a fantastic gift shop, well stocked with healthy spa
goodies, including flagship brands like Elemis, for when you finally
say goodbye. That’s if they can drag you away...this is a truly inviting
and welcoming place, with a warm and friendly hospitality that’s
healing, nurturing and restorative.
