The young, the old, the very old and even the sick and the weak attains his goal
by persevering without lassitude, in the integrated scheme of yoga.

NOTE: The commentator wants the different steps of yoga to be understood as
forming a composite whole together with Asana, Kumbhaka, etc. The problem prior
to such discussion was, “Who can practise yoga?” It has been wrongly believed that
the old, weak and sick people could not practice yoga, thus giving an impression
that Hatha Yoga is to be avoided by such persons. The author therefore feels it
necessary to unequivocally emphasize that not only the young, but even the old,
the very old, the weak and the sick can take to the practice of yoga and can benefit
from it, provided they persevere in their efforts. It is to be noted the emphasis is
not only on Asana and Kumbhaka, etc., but on the integrated yoga, i.e. all the eight
Angas (limbs). It is evident from the records maintained at The Yoga Institute that if
scientifically applied, integrated yoga can bring about significant results in almost
all cases.
