MOVE THE BODY AND ITS JOINTS IN ALL DIRECTIONS. With
every sequence you create, you want to make sure that
your body gets to move in a well-rounded manner.
CHOOSE THE ORDER OF YOUR POSES WISELY. As you may
have noticed in the previous chapter, every pose had
preceding and counterposes listed next to it. This is
meant to help practitioners understand why we put the
poses in a certain order. With every pose you practice,
you want to make sure that you warm up the correct
body parts and then cool down or counteract the phys-
ical effects of the pose. For example, after a back bend
like Bridge, draw your knees into your chest or do Happy
Baby. That way, the spine goes in the opposite direction
from what it was just in when you were in Bridge.

FOCUS ON A THEME. Try this if you’re not sure where to
start in making a sequence. This can be as easy as prac-
ticing breathing, or it can be as challenging as focusing
on a certain area of the body, like the legs or hips.

Above all else, have fun with your practice and listen to
your body. If something doesn’t feel right, then don’t do it.
