YOGA FOR BEGINNERS

Eating Habits While

Practicing the Poses

So far, this chapter has discussed the benefits of nutrition in
the context of yoga practice. When it comes to nutrition, you
want to find the perfect system for you. Pay attention to what
you eat and be aware of how you feel before, during, and
after practice, then take note of what works and what doesn’t.
This will help you find the right way to eat for your yoga.
There are some more immediate considerations when
practicing the poses. Namely, take the time to create some
beneficial eating habits.

Establishing Good Eating Habits

Here are a few common tips on what and how to eat before
practicing asana:

DON’T EAT BIG, HEAV Y MEALS BEFORE PRACTICING,
ESPECIALLY IF TWISTING. You want to wring out the toxins,
not your spaghetti.
DON’T EAT RIGHT BEFORE YOU PRACTICE. You want the
food in your body to be properly digested.
DON’T DRINK ALCOHOL BEFORE PRACTICING. While it may
give you confidence and make you feel uber-flexible,
your balance and equilibrium will be off. Because your
inhibitions are lowered, you may push yourself too far
and cause injury.
If you’re very hungry right before you practice, try eating
a piece of fruit and a handful of nuts or a small snack that’s
easily digested.
