YOGA FOR BEGINNERS
Mantra Meditation
A mantra is a chant that supports meditation. Mantra
meditation continues to focus on the breath, but you’re
going to add a mantra to help hone in on the present
moment. This is a great meditation to practice when
you’re feeling overwhelmed with a giant to-do list.
Follow these steps to do Mantra meditation:
- Come to a comfortable seated position. Again, use
whatever props are necessary to support your body and
allow it to relax. - Close your eyes and relax your shoulders.
- Take a deep, cleansing breath to fully fill your lungs and
belly, then exhale and let it all go. - Let your breath come back to its normal rhythm.
- Start to observe the breath. Take note of the intricacies
of the inhale and the exhale. Continue to do this for several
minutes. If the mind wanders, come back to focusing on
the breath. - Now you’re going to add a mantra to each breath. The
words of this mantra will be your focus. - Observe the breath coming into the body as you silently
say, “I.”
