THE ESSENTIAL YOGA POSES

Practicing the Poses

The following pages describe 36 essential poses. They are
meant to teach the fundamentals from which other more
advanced poses can be built upon. Learning and practicing
these poses prepares you to move on to other ones.
I have broken down the poses into these four sections:



  1. Warm-Up

  2. Standing Poses

  3. Back Bends

  4. Cooldown


Under each pose you will find several different
categories, most of which are self-explanatory. The
Preceding pose is like the warm-up to the described pose,
and the Counterpose is the cooldown to the pose.
