The Word of God


Our Father, when you have put away everything that comes between
us, lead me into your truth. Teach me more of your word; teach it to
me by experience; may I have it burned into my heart; may I know
the truth not only in the letter of it, but in the life and spirit of it. And
teach me to be holy; how I long to be holy.^283


Set readings


Lord my God, may I come away from doubting and fearing and
hesitating, and believe with a faith which trusts the bare promise of
my God. Let me not ask for signs and wonders, withholding faith
because these are not given; but whatever I find in your word, may I
believe it to be sure truth and hang my soul upon it. Above all, give
grace to trust in Jesus, in the full atonement made and the utmost
ransom paid. He is all my salvation and all my desire.^284

I pray for myself and for those dear to me......
Blessed Spirit, teach me every day to be more useful. May there
be about me the savour of Christ. May others be aware that I have
been with you, because my conduct and conversation betrays it. I
have been with Jesus of Nazareth; give me the distinctive brogue of
Canaan. Give me the accent of truth, righteousness and love, and so
may those about me who have despised our Lord be led, through
your Spirit, to honour and reverence him.^285
