OM Yoga Magazine – July 2018

(coco) #1

The month of July takes us into high summer and also brings with it two eclipses: a solar
eclipse and a lunar eclipse. With so much heat from the summer sun and an abundance of
growth and planetary activity all around us, we need something to help balance us and cool
and calm us this month. The perfect oil for this is Vetiver oil, Vetiveria Zizanoides.
Vetiver oil originates from India and Sri Lanka where it is considered a holy herb and has
been used for centuries around the home and in ceremonies as an anointing oil. Vetiver
is known as the oil of tranquillity due to its relaxing, calming properties on the mind. It
helps one to remain calm and centered. Place three or four drops in a diffuser to help
you navigate calmly through the two eclipses with ease and to promote a peaceful and
grounding environment.
Vetiver is a lovely cooling oil so perfect for the summer months. If you find the sun too
much, place two drops on a cold compress, place on your head, lie back and let the vetiver
oil reduce the heat in the body. Alternatively, place vetiver oil with five drops of lavender
oil in some rose water for a beautifully cooling and calming body spray that will also help
balance and ground you. You can also use this spray before any meditations this month as
vetiver oil helps cleanse and purify you and your vital energy.
Generally considered a safe oil.
