FINAL FRAME
SHOWERED WITH AFFECTION: After nearly throwing the first no-hitter by a Cardinal
since 2001, Michael Wacha was engulfed by his teammates’ appreciation of yet another
superlative outing by the unanticipated “veteran” of the 2018 rotation. Throwing no-hit
ball through eight innings of his June 3 start vs. Pittsburgh, Wacha surrendered a leadoff
pinch-single in the ninth that ended his afternoon after 111 pitches. He still earned the
victory in the 5-0 shutout and improved to 7-1 (the loss came in his first start of the season).
