How to stand out in the crowded
world of gear providers? That is the
question for many small brands.
For Klubb Cricket, a desire to help
out clubs struggling for money has
helped inspire their unique selling
point – the club rebate scheme.
Hailing from Leicestershire, the
company is run by cricketers who
have seen fi rst hand the struggles
that clubs go through, from
fi nancial limitations to a lack of help
schemes and below-par facilities.
The club rebate scheme attempts to
help out in this regard. Clubs can
sign up to it and receive 10 per cent
back on every purchase their players
make of bats, pads, gloves etc. When
clubs sign up, they receive a code
which allows them to see how much
rebate they have accrued. At the end
of the year, Klubb Cricket pay the
accumulated lump sum to the club.
Sam Rollins, Klubb Cricket owner,
spoke to The Cricketer about how
the scheme came about.

“Someone used to do it for our
clothing at the club I used to play
for. Most people buy some new kit
each year and there’s a lot of money
spent. But none of it ends up helping
the clubs. We were a small club so
we always struggled for funding, a
lot of clubs have the same problem.
Clubs are run by volunteers because

they love the game, not for making
profi t. I thought it was a good way
to give something back to help clubs
of all sizes. Any extra cash for a club
is useful so that’s the main reason
behind the rebate scheme.
“I’m from a family of cricketers.
My brother is captain, my dad still
plays, we’ve always played, it’s a

big part of our family life. For our
club, we still require money from
local charities and other schemes
that are available. There’s a lot of
work and money needed to run a
club so something pretty simple like
a rebate scheme we thought was a
hassle-free return. It was defi nitely
infl uenced by myself playing cricket.
“There’s a lot of cricket brands
out there, but because we don’t
go through retailers either we can
come in competitively on price for
the quality we offer, and then we’re
able to give the rebate back as well.”
Klubb Cricket’s bats, made by
one of the best batmakers in the
country, are the pride of place.
Made in England and handcrafted
individually, the attention to detail
and care is clear to see. Rollins
said: “It’s nice to keep that ‘made
in England’ tag alive. A lot of
manufacturers don’t make bats in
England anymore because of the
cost, but we feel it’s worth it to get
the quality people want. All our
bats come fully hand-knocked-in
too so they’re ready to go.”
