WINDSHIELD WIPERS

Bene ts
This movement increases mobility in the hip joints. Secondarily, this pose
stretches the ankles, knees, low back, chest, shoulders, and wrists. It is a
great counterstretch to poses that stretch the hip, such as sleeping swan
(page 123), shoelace (page 124), and  re log (page 126).
Risks and Contraindications
Proceed with caution if you have hip pain.
Alignment Points


  • Begin in easy seated pose (page 118).

  • Place the hands approximately 12 inches (30 cm) behind the hips.

  • Spread the hands shoulder-width apart, with the  ngers facing for-
    ward.

  • Position the feet  at on the  oor about 12 inches (30 cm) in front of
    the hips.

  • Spread the feet about the width of the shoulders.

  • Gently sway the knees side to side (see a and b).
    Modi cations and Other Options
    As the knees move one direction, turn the gaze in the opposite direction
    for an added neck stretch.
