to use these tools, and you are the one that
needs to do that work – no one else can do
it for you. But the work is worth it, my friend!
- Move for you
We all know that moving and exercise is
good for our physical body. The endorphins
cultivated from movement bring a natural
high that can brew into everything around
us. It’s also a time where new connections
between brain and body are made. Be sure
that when you do move it is something
that ignites your passion. Whatever your
movement regime is – weights, yoga, running
or dancing – explore. Be sure that what you’re
doing to take care of yourself is for you,
rather than to prove something. It’s good to
hustle and have goals for yourself. However,
when it begins to create stress, what you are
doing is no longer serving your purpose. Stop
and ask yourself your intentions, and why
you are doing this. Is it to lose extra pounds,
connect with yourself, or maybe you realise
how much happier you feel after moving your
body, in turn making you a better friend,
parent or partner? Focusing only on the light
at the end of the tunnel can make things
cloudy around you. Thoughts can become a
bit muddled and can become self-destructive
over time. Move and explore with excitement. - Create the calm in the challenge
You may find yourself in an impossible
situation at some point. As stated earlier,
living intentionally doesn’t mean feeling
only calm and positive. Living intentionally is
about feeling everything, but also finding the
ability to create a calm around you. Nothing
lasts forever. What may be painful now will
eventually morph into a new part of you. You
can create calm in any situation. You can
find control. When things get challenging
and seem uncontrollable, find something you
can control; slow your breath, walk away, or
even take a rest. By creating calm, you can
send the message to your brain that you are
in control and have intention. - Be patient with the fluctuations
We are ever changing creatures. Not only
are we different from one another, but we
are different from who we were yesterday.
Constantly exposed to situations and people
that affect us in ways we don’t realise, we
are always evolving and changing. If you
really think about it, you have never been
this exact version of yourself. Be patient as
each day brings fluctuation in emotions, and
instead of focusing on the challenge itself
being just that – challenging – try focusing
on your next move instead. Be deliberate
with your choices.
6. Trust yourself
After practicing to live with more intention
and awareness, you’ll create a strong
intuition. Situations will be less cloudy, and
you’ll begin to notice inklings of clarity -
trust these moments! No matter what’s going
on around you, when you practice living
intentionally you can always be confident
in yourself and the intuition you build by
being connected.
7. Self-care
In order to keep the connection and
mindfulness with yourself, you must take
care of yourself – inside and out. Find at
least 10 minutes every day for you. This
could be something as low-key as taking a
moment on your lunch break to sit with your
eyes closed, in the quiet of your car. Or,
perhaps finding your favourite at-home spa
treatment. Another great way to take care of
your mind is meditation. By doing this each
and every day, you can centre yourself, and
create balance between the work you do
each day and the reconnection it takes
to keep giving to those around you who
need you.
Living intentionally is a daily practice. It
will never be perfect, but nothing is! It’s
important to remember that. As we practice
living intentionally, it becomes easier to
embrace imperfections in order to accept
and love ourselves where we are in this
moment. We can appreciate others for
their imperfections, and over time, grow
personally and grow closer to those
around us.^
