For the meals cooked during
the holidays, I’m looking for
vegetarian or vegan options.
This means tofu or Beyond
Meat turkey for Thanksgiving
and Christmas gatherings.
I do eat potatoes often, and
look forward to having
latkes during Chanukah. The
Red Dot Kitchen in Frazier
Park has some sumptuous
vegetarian dinners for the
holidays and I’m looking
forward to meals there:

Although the meaning of
Thanksgiving has changed
for me throughout the years,
I still savor specific foods and
enjoy the tradition of breaking
bread with family.. Traditional
food runs deep with mashed
potatoes, Pepperidge Farm
stuffing mixed with sautéed
celery and onion, yams with
marshmallows melted on top,
baked asparagus with olive
oil, and the massive locally
raised Willie Bird Turkey. My
contribution? Homemade
organic applesauce.

We asked a selection of our contributors the following question this issue:

How are you planning to incorporate some of your favorite foods in your

holiday plans or gatherings this year?

My favorite treat foods, what
heaven would taste like, are
apple pie with crumbs on
top, and pecan pie. I’ll eat
extra healthy all day, and
get really hungry, then have
one or the other for lunch or
dinner, letting each bite blow
my taste buds and my mind.
If you are really hungry, just
the smell is intoxicating. My
friends somehow know how to
find the best pies, made with
amazing ingredients.

I don’t eat meat and sometimes
that can be challenging at
holiday parties. So, I’ve become
a “side girl.” I like all veggies,
salads, and stuffing. This year
I want to make a cauliflower
stuffing. My absolute favorite
is potato latkes (pancakes). I
LOVE them! Known mostly
as a Jewish tradition, I learned
to make them in the 5th grade
and they are now part of my
holiday tradition.
