Free Hugs...!
Sri Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, af-
fectionately known as Amma, the hugging
saint, will be in Los Angeles this month.

Amma in LA Details
When: June 12-
Where: LAX Hilton,
5711 West Century Boulevard,
Los Angeles, CA 90045

Programs run intermittently Tuesday
9am through Friday morning just past
sunrise.
Amma gives darshan (sacred site), in the
form of a loving embrace. She has hugged
over 34 million people in six continents
over the past 38 years. At times she has
hugged for up to 27 hours straight!
Receiving darshan from a mahatma
(great being) and living satguru (dispeller
of darkness) is a rare and precious op-
portunity. First-timers, seasoned students, and lifelong devotees can have a range of experiences,
from the obvious and material to the subtle and profound. These include relief of physical, mental,
and emotional suffering, samadhi (bliss) and enlightened states, as well as untold miracles and
overwhelming joys.
Upon entry, attendees line up for a darshan token. This token is something like a deli-counter
number, and signifies when your group will receive a hug. While waiting, there is an array of
traditional Indian foods, Western snacks, coffee and chai to keep you busy. There are videos of
Amma’s humanitarian work, and shopping to financially support it.
Also available for purchase are books, audio, t-shirts and sweatshirts, traditional Indian
saris, bath and body products (including aromatherapy oils), home and temple worship items,
Ayurvedic herbs, personalized chiropractic care and massage, radiance healing, and astrological
readings. Proceeds go to Amma’s umbrella charity Embracing The World, the only NGO given
consultative status by the United Nations. –Amy V. Dewhurst

Won’t You Be
My Neighbor
“Love is at the root
of everything. Love or
the lack of it.” This
simple emphasis on
love is at the heart
of the philosophy
espoused by TV star,
student of childhood
development, and
minister Mr Rogers.
In the feature-length
documentary Won’t
You Be My Neighbor,
Director Morgan Neville deftly tells the story of this unlikely yet
fully likable icon.

Film: Coming to My Senses
The documentary film follows the journey of
former motorcross racer Aaron Baker. In 1999,
Aaron experienced a devastating injury, break-
ing his neck while riding. He was paralyzed
from the neck down with a prognosis that did
not involve him ever feeding himself again. Yet
his persistence and ongoing practice have led to
him literally coming to his senses in more ways
than one. This film tracks his effort to set goals,
to rehabilitate body, mind, and spirit, and to
trek across punishing landscapes. His work
includes opening a socially conscious low-cost
gym focused on increasing mobility for people
with disabilities. The film is available on digital
platforms including itunes: tomysenses.com

Finding Inspiration
through Tweets
In the noisy world of social media,
and of minute-by-minute news
updates, it feels like the collective
has tipped towards celebrating
the sensational and controversial.
So, it’s little wonder that we’ve
become desensitized to things that
would ordinarily hit us with great
impact. But if switching off social
media is not an option, how do we continue using it for the greater
good over the long term? At a time when I wasn’t functioning at my
greatest potential, after a car accident and surgery, I sought the support
of a spiritual community and high vibration spiritual guides. Four people
I found particularly inspiring are: Lalah Delia (@lalahdelia), Vex King
(@VexKing), Maryam Hasnaa (@maryamhasnaa), and Kylie Riordan
(@mindfulheal). –Marina Chetner
