Yoga Bodies Real People, Real Stories, & the Power of Transformation

I am a yoga and meditation teacher, a Reiki
healer and an energy worker. I work with people
who have physical ailments or major emotional
traumas, like divorce or childhood abuse. I always
refer my clients to a psychotherapist as well,
but even if they’re doing traditional therapy,
speaking to someone with just words, the body
can still hold negative energy. Our cells lock in
trauma, and Reiki and energy work can help clear
that out.
When I work with someone, they lie down and I
do an energy scan of their body. I hover my hands
about two inches above them, usually starting at
the crown of their head and working down. Tech-
nically I’m scanning all of their chakras. I’ll get
tingles in my hands or a sharp pain; sometimes I’ll
get a lot of heat radiating off their body, which
indicates that there’s a significant amount of

or life-force energy, in that spot. That’s a sure sign
of where they’re holding trauma. Then I use dif-
ferent techniques to help them move that energy
out. I might put crystals on their bodies or flick
my hands up and away. As the session progresses,

their breath changes and slows, their muscles
relax, and they become quiet.
These practices are about opening peo-
ple’s minds to help them know themselves on a
deeper level, instead of just going through this
life living on the surface. I think about it as snor-
keling versus scuba diving. You can snorkel, and
the reef looks really good from the top. Or you
can put on your scuba gear and dive down, and
it might be scary as hell, but you’re in the reef
and you’re with the fish, and it’s another whole
element. Even in yoga, when you tap into being
on your mat, you transition from snorkeling to
scuba diving.
I get that some people are skeptical about what
I do; I have had clients who come because a friend
has referred them, but they’re still doubtful. If you
create too much of a mental barrier, though, you
may not consciously feel the benefits of energy
work. Besides, releasing judgment and being
open-minded benefit you in so many areas of life.
I’m all for people saying, “This is different; I’m not
familiar with it, but I’m willing to try it.”
