UK: On the edge
A man was rescued from a 30ft building
ledge in Leicester city centre after he was
captured on ilm performing what appeared
to be a yoga pose — police later said it
appeared to be a “drunken incident”. It was
ilmed by a DJ returning home from work
shortly after 3am. One eyewitness told ITV:
“I guess you could say he was performing
some kind of yoga pose...It would’ve taken
a lot of core strength to stay on that ledge.”
A crew from the city’s central ire station
eventually helped the man to safety using a
ladder. Fortunately, no one was harmed.

USA: Rage yoga
Remember when yoga was all about achieving a state
of calm and contentment? Rage Yoga is turning that
on its head, by getting people to workout by cursing
and shouting. “It’s more than just a practice, Rage Yoga
is an attitude,” says founder Lindsay Istace. On her
website (RageYoga.com), she says the practice involves
plenty of stretching and positional exercises, as well
as bad humour, “with the goal of attaining good health
and to become zen as f*ck.” But, she says, it works. “It
changed my life,” she adds, helping her to manage stress,
overcome addiction and navigate personal challenges.

Afghanistan: Kabul calm
Yoga is helping women in Afghanistan’s
capital to enjoy a better life after years of
conlict in the country. The Momtaz Yoga
Center in Kabul is Afghanistan’s only yoga
studio. A one-room space with a wooden
interior and a large window that allows the
light in, it has served as a hub for female
yoga students since 2016. It was set up by
Fakhria Momtaz, who thinks it plays a valuable role in entrenching peace in the strife-
torn nation. “Everyone in this country wants to ind peace after sufering in years of war
and conlict,” she told Al Jazeera. “But you cannot establish peace in this society if you
are not at peace within yourself.”
