A guided meditation to help you go with

the low. By Jill Lawson

W

e have all heard the phrase: ‘Go with the low’.
While this is intended to give us permission
to let life happen and accept the things we
cannot change, the quote carries a bit of
controversy. Some believe going with the low
is a cop out that wastes vital energy.
Sean Covey, motivational author, and son of Steven Covey
(author of the book, 7 Habits of Successful People), believes going
with the low goes against the grain of human potential. He said:
“If you decide to just go with the low, you’ll end up where the low
goes, which is usually downhill, often leading to a big pile of sludge
and a life of unhappiness. You’ll end up doing what everyone else
is doing.”
Whatever you believe to be true, embodying the lowing qualities
of water has its advantages. The following meditation is designed
to awaken you to the empowering nature of going with the low.
Practice and experience droplets of wisdom soaking your spirit
with inner peace and inspiration.

Do it now
Begin in a comfortable position free from distractions. Take several
deep breaths to clear your mind and relax your body. Now, imagine
a river. See this image clearly in your mind’s eye. Take a moment
to equate your river with the forces in your life. Your river doesn’t
represent speciic events in your life, it is only the energy around
the events.
Next, see a boat in the river. This boat represents your mind. Be
a witness, and watch your boat travel down stream. Perhaps your
mind is bouncing through rapids, getting caught in an eddy, or
being turned upside-down by the current. Have no fear. While the
water may carry your boat to places you’d rather not be, you have
all the power you need to steer your mind in the direction you wish
to go, using the low to your advantage.
Understand that while going with the low may seem like you are
giving up your authority to the forces at hand, this is not the case.
You must learn to harness life’s energy for forward momentum.
Where the current takes you is entirely up to you. Trust yourself,
and be guided by the energetic life-force to move in your desired
direction.
May this river meditation teach you to low with ease, erode
away that which no longer serves you, and carry your mind to life’s
calm waters.
