10 McCall’s Quick Quilts October/November 2019

Color Play!
The large patches in this quilt are perfect
for showing off novelty prints like the
Halloween fabrics that were used in the
original design. Denise used a fun Christ-
mas fabric with a retro feel to create her
own vision of Tricks & Treats.

Patches are lettered in order of use.

Sew
1 Refer to Assembly Diagram for fol-
lowing steps, watching patch place-
ment and print orientation. Sew 8
horizontal rows using A’s, B’s, C’s, and
D’s in print combinations as shown.
2 Sew 10 white tone-on-tone sashing
strips end-to-end. Cut into 8 strips
48½ ̋ wide to make sashes. Join
pieced horizontal rows and black
pumpkin print strip alternately with
white sashes as shown.
3 Refer to Borders in Quilt Basics. Join
white border strips and cut to sizes
shown in Assembly Diagram. Match-
ing centers and ends, sew border side
strips to quilt. Repeat to add border
top and bottom strips.
4 In similar manner, add black spider-
web print border 2.
5 Layer, baste, and quilt. Linda machine
quilted continuous scrolls in the
sashes and meandering across the
quilt surface. Bind the quilt.
