4 Note: Refer to Assembly Diagram for
following steps, watching block place-
ment and orientation. Sew vertical row
of 5 blocks alternating with maroon
tone-on-tone D’s.
5 Cut maroon border strips to sizes
shown in Assembly Diagram. Match-
ing centers and ends, sew border side
strips to table runner. Repeat to add
border top and bottom strips.
6 Add brown border strips in same way.
7 Referring to Diagram IV, fold E in half
diagonally and press. Fold diagonally
once more as shown and press again
to make prairie point. Make 44 total.
8 Referring to Diagram V, pin 5 prairie
points to each end of the runner, and
17 prairie point to each side as shown,
nesting the folded edge of each prairie
point in between the layers of the
point to its left. Baste in place.
9 Smooth batting over a fl at surface.
Place table runner backing on top of
batting, right side up. Place basted
runner top on backing, right side
facing backing. Pin all layers together.
Sew through all layers, ¼ ̋ from top’s
raw edge, leaving about 4 ̋ open on
one side for turning. Trim excess bat-
ting and backing even with top’s raw
edge. Trim corners diagonally.
10 Turn runner right side out through
opening. Press. Slip stitch opening
closed by hand and quilt. Abigail ma-
chine quilted in the ditch and ¼ ̋ away
from seams in sashes and border 1.
She quilted continuous curls in the
blocks and curls in border 2.
