Scale Aviation Modeller International – March 2019

(WallPaper) #1

I

n recent years Eduard
have been gaining a
reputation for producing
kits of exquisite accuracy
and detail, which I have thus
far found to be completely
deserved. So, when I received
this latest ofering, I set
about assessing it with high
expectations. To ind out
whether my expectations were
met, read on. The box-art is a
beautifully realised study of
Tempest JN751 lown by W/Cdr
Beamont pulling away from a
V1 Flying Bomb, which shows
serious signs of recent damage,

presumably at the guns of the
Tempest. The big box is far
from full, but contains ive
grey sprues, one clear, one
photo-etched in steel, a set
of canopy masks and a sheet
of decals ofering markings
for six diferent aircraft. Well,
ive really, since two are the
same aircraft (JN751) with and
without invasion stripes. There
is a twenty-page instruction/
painting guide which is nicely
laid out and looks totally idiot-
proof. Challenge accepted.
Build options are limited to
the canopy: open or closed.

Undercarriage is down only
and the control surfaces are
separate, but not terribly
poseable and the laps are most
deinitely in the ‘up’ position.
The colour schemes suggested
are unavoidably similar, all
of them ofering variations
on ocean grey/dark green/
medium sea grey camoulage.
There are diferent colours
of airscrew spinners along
with either Tempest/Typhoon
identiications stripes, invasion
stripes, or no stripes at all.
I began the build with the
cockpit, which is perfect,

with just the right amount of
complexity for this scale, with
combination of PE and plastic
that should satisfy 99% of
modellers. All the components
it together without trauma
and look really good. The
instrument panel is ofered in
three diferent forms, and you
have options of raised detail (to
paint), lat panels (for which
there are decals) or best of
all, pre-painted PE which just
looks fantastic. There are PE
additions to the side consoles
as well along with etched seat
belts, just for good measure.
