Scale Aviation Modeller International – March 2019

(WallPaper) #1

The construction of the wheel
wells is all I have come to
expect from Eduard. The detail
is complex, accurate and simple
to assemble with each side
comprising eleven pieces, not
including the wing itself, and
everything its perfectly. I was
particularly impressed by the
really beefy bits (E53 and E51),
which have good deep sockets
for the main legs to come.
The undercarriage itself was
similarly ‘Eduard-like’ when I
came to deal with it: detailed,
robust and itting perfectly. The
wings have separate ailerons
as well as an inset piece for
the ‘long’ cannons itted to
early Tempests. The surface
detail is subtle with good
variation where appropriate.

As you dry it this kit
together prior to committing
to glue, a horror soon becomes
apparent. Eduard seem to
have returned to the 1990s and
moulded the trailing edges of
the wings all on the top section
with a joint which appears one
third of the way along the laps
on the underside. This situation
is compounded even further
when you ofer the wings up
to the fuselage and ind that
there is yet another seam in the
inboard laps! They’ve done a
similar thing on the in leading
edge, but that join runs along a
natural panel join, and is not a
problem. The same cannot be
said for the laps. The inevitable
illing and sanding completely
removed all rivet detail from
